Gita Mahatmya - Glory of The Bhagavad GITA

Dharovaacha:
Bhagavan parameshaana bhaktiravyabhichaarinee;
Praarabdham bhujyamaanasya katham bhavati he prabho.
The Earth said:
1. O Bhagavan, the Supreme Lord! How can unflinching devotion arise in him who is immersed in his Prarabdha Karmas (worldly life), O Lord?

Sri Vishnuruvaacha:
Praarabdham bhujyamaano hi geetaabhyaasaratah sadaa;
Sa muktah sa sukhee loke karmanaa nopalipyate.
Lord Vishnu said:
2. Though engaged in the performance of worldly duties, one who is regular in the study of the Gita becomes free. He is a happy man in this world. He is not bound by Karma.

Mahaapaapaadipaapaani geetaadhyaanam karoti chet;
Kwachit sparsham na kurvanti nalineedalam ambuvat.
3. Just as the water stains not the lotus leaf, even so, sins do not taint him who is regular in the recitation of the Gita.

Ardhamaatraaksharaa nityaa swaanirvaachyapadaatmikaa.
8. The Gita is My highest science, which is doubtless of the form of Brahman, the Eternal, the Ardhamatra (of the Pranava Om), the ineffable splendour of the Self.

Chidaanandena krishnena proktaa swamukhato’rjuna;
Vedatrayee paraanandaa tatwaarthajnaanasamyutaa.
9. It was spoken by the blessed Lord Krishna, the all-knowing, through His own mouth, to Arjuna. It contains the essence of the Vedas—the knowledge of the Reality. It is full of supreme bliss.
COMMENTARY: The Gita contains the cream of the Vedas and Upanishads. Hence it is a universal scripture suited for people of all temperaments and for all ages.

Yoashtaadasha japen nityam naro nishchalamaanasah;
Jnaanasiddhim sa labhate tato yaati param padam.
10. He who recites the eighteen chapters of the Bhagavad Gita daily, with a pure and unshaken mind, attains perfection in knowledge, and reaches the highest state or supreme goal.

Paathe’asamarthah sampoornam tato’rdham paathamaacharet;
Tadaa godaanajam punyam labhate naatra samshayah.
11. If a complete reading is not possible, even if only half is read, he attains the benefit of giving a cow as a gift. There is no doubt about this.

Tribhaagam pathamaanastu gangaasnaanaphalam labhet;
Shadamsham japamaanastu somayaagaphalam labhet.
12. He who recites one-third part of it achieves the merit of a bath in the sacred river Ganges; and who recites one-sixth of it attains the merit of performing a Soma sacrifice (a kind of ritual).

Ekaadhyaayam tu yo nityam pathate bhaktisamyutah;
Rudralokam avaapnoti gano bhootwaa vasecchiram.
13. That person who reads one discourse with supreme faith and devotion attains to the world of Rudra and, having become a Gana (an attendant of Lord Shiva), lives there for many years.

Sa yaati narataam yaavanmanwantaram vasundhare.
14. If one reads a discourse or even a part of a verse daily he, O Earth, retains a human body till the end of a Manvantara (71 Mahayugas or 308,448,000 years).

Geetaabhyaasam punah kritwaa labhate muktim uttamaam;
Geetetyucchaarasamyukto mriyamaano gatim labhet.

Vaikuntham samavaapnoti vishnunaa saha modate.
18. Though full of sins, one who is ever intent on hearing the meaning of the Gita, goes to the kingdom of God and rejoices with Lord Vishnu.

Geetaartham dhyaayate nityam kritwaa karmaani bhoorishah;
Jeevanmuktah sa vijneyo dehaante paramam padam.
19. He who meditates on the meaning of the Gita, having performed many virtuous actions, attains the supreme goal after death. Such an individual should be considered a true Jivanmukta.
COMMENTARY: A Jivanmukta is one who has attained liberation while living.

Geetaam aashritya bahavo bhoobhujo janakaadayah;
Nirdhootakalmashaa loke geetaa yaataah param padam.
20. In this world, taking refuge in the Gita, many kings like Janaka and others reached the highest state or goal, purified of all sins.

Geetaayaah pathanam kritwaa maahaatmyam naiva yah pathet;
Vrithaa paatho bhavet tasya shrama eva hyudaahritah.
21. He who fails to read this “Glory of the Gita” after having read the Gita, loses the benefit thereby, and the effort alone remains.
COMMENTARY: This is to test and confirm the faith of the reader in the Bhagavad Gita, which is not a mere philosophical book but the word of God and should therefore be studied with great faith and devotion. The Gita Mahatmya generates this devotion in one’s heart.

Etanmaahaatmyasamyuktam geetaabhyaasam karoti yah;
Sa tatphalamavaapnoti durlabhaam gatim aapnuyaat.
22. One who studies the Gita, together with this “Glory of the Gita”, attains the fruits mentioned above, and reaches the state which is otherwise very difficult to be attained.

Suta Uvaacha:
Maahaatmyam etad geetaayaah mayaa proktam sanaatanam;
Geetaante cha pathedyastu yaduktam tatphalam labhet.
Suta said:
23. This greatness or “Glory of the Gita”, which is eternal, as narrated by me, should be read at the end of the study of the Gita, and the fruits mentioned therein will be obtained.

Iti srivaraahapuraane srigeetaamaahaatmyam sampoornam.
Thus ends the “Glory of the Gita” contained in the Varaha Purana.

Why We Should Not Eat Onion and Garlic?

If you want to elevate spiritually, it is advised by our Spiritual masters to refrain from eating Onion and Garlic.

Onion and Garlic are Tamasic and Rajasic in Nature. It is advised to eat only Satvik food to elevate Spiritually to keep the mind under control. Eating onion and Garlic may cause Anger, Irritability and over excitement. It also increases Sexual passion and Ignorance.

Onions and Garlic come under the Pungent Food Types. Even Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita advice us to avoid Pungent Food Types.

Chapter17 Verse 9
kaṭv-amla-lavaṇāty-uṣṇa-
tīkṣṇa-rūkṣa-vidāhinaḥ
āhārā rājasasyeṣṭā
duḥkha-śokāmaya-pradāḥ

Translation:

Foods that are too bitter, too sour, salty, hot, pungent, dry and burning are dear to those in the mode of passion. Such foods cause distress, misery, and disease.

It is to be noted that, in all the ISKCON temples Onion and Garlic are not used in the preparation of Prasadam. Still, the Prasadam tastes heavenly, by the Divine blessings of Lord Krishna.

His Grace Amarendra Das has done thorough research on this topic and explained it beautifully.

I wish that this video might have enlightened you about Garlic and Onion. Avoiding Onion and Garlic is one of the easiest steps to keep our senses under our control. By the end of the day, you are what you eat. Eat a Satvik diet and live a happy and peaceful life.

Sri Nrisimha Pranama - For Divine Protection

I offer my obeisances to Lord Narasimha who gives joy to Prahlada Maharaja and whose nails are like chisels on the stonelike chest of the demon Hiranyakasipu.

ito nrisimhah parato nrisimho
yato yato yami tato nrisimhah
bahir nrisimho hridaye nrisimho
nrisimham adim saranam prapadye

Lord Nrisimha is here and also there. Wherever I go Lord Nrisimha is there. He is in the heart and is outside as well. I surrender to Lord Nrisimha, the origin of all things and the supreme refuge. Prayer to Lord Nrisimha by Jayadeva Gosvami

tava kara-kamala-vare nakham adbhuta-sringam
dalita-hiranyakasipu-tanu-bhringam
kesava dhrita-narahari-rupa jaya jagadisa hare

O Kesava! O Lord of the universe! O Lord Hari, who have assumed the form of half-man, half-lion! All glories to You! Just as one can easily crush a wasp between one’s fingernails, so in the same way the body of the wasp-like demon Hiranyakasipu has been ripped apart by the wonderful pointed nails on Your beautiful lotus hands.

Spiritual Questions. Spiritual Answers.

Disciple - Namaste Master.
Spiritual Master - Namaste Prabhu. Let God's mercy be with you always.

Disciple - I have lots of questions about the secrets of life. I would heartily appreciate if you could enlighten me.
Spiritual Master - I know NOTHING about the secrets of life. Still, I will do my BEST to enlighten you based on the information provided in our Holy books.

Disciple - I BELIEVE and TRUST in you as you are one of the saintly persons who treats happiness and miseries the same way without getting disturbed.
Spiritual Master - Happiness and Miseries are the result of the sense perception. You will undistrubed by the Maya if you surrender to the Lotus feet of the Lord. Please go ahead and ask your questions.

Disciple - Who am I ?
Spiritual Master - You are the Spirit Soul descended from the Spiritual world to this Materialistic world. You are not the body and mind as you think.

Disciple - Why do the Spirit Souls have descended from the Spiritual world?
Spiritual Master - Because the Spirit souls have the greed to enjoy the material desires in this materialistic world.

Disciple - Why there are sufferings in this Materialistic world ?
Spiritual Master - It is the nature of this Materialistic world. It is something like asking why chili is spicy? We are Spirit souls who belong to the Spiritual world. A fish can be happy only in water. Similarly, We can have eternal happiness only in our Spiritual world. Materialistic world is described in our Vedic scriptures as—duḥkhālayam and aśāśvatam [Bg. 8.15]. Duḥkhālayam which means, it is a place of miseries. Aśāśvatam, which means temporary.

Disciple - If the materialistic world is a place of miseries or sufferings, I could see lots of billionaires and celebrities enjoying it?
Spiritual Master - What you see from the outside is actually a Mirage ( A sheet of water will be visible in the Desert due to Optical Illusion caused by atmospheric conditions ). You never know the pain or sufferings that they undergo. Everyone, who has taken birth in this materialistic world needs to undergo miseries or sufferings. It is the nature of the materialistic world. Can you explain why a few Celebrities and billionaires committing Suicide if you claim that they are enjoying it?

Disciple - On what basis the Spirit soul Enjoys or Suffers in this materialistic world? Do the degree of Enjoyment and Suffering is same for all Spirit Souls?
Spiritual Master - Everyone in this materialistic world enjoys or suffers based on one's karmas. When God have created this Materialistic world, he also has created the Law of Karma ( What you sow, you reap ). If you do good, good will come back to you. The opposite is also true. I hear most of them jumping with the question, why I am suffering even though I haven't done anything bad? The perfect answer is that your soul carries the Good / Bad Karmas through multiple incarnations. Your current sufferings might be because of the past bad karmas. Only very few wise men ask the question "Why I am enjoying ?" when many are going through hardships.

"A wise man learns the "Law of Karma" from others sufferings; A fool learns from his own sufferings; A sinful man will never learn from his sufferings also".

Disciple - I hope, I am a wise man. So only I ask these questions to safeguard myself from the sufferings on seeing others.
Master - ( Gives a Gentle Smile )

Disciple - What are the major attributes of this materialistic world?
Spiritual Master - Birth, Old Age, Disease and Death are the major attributes of the materialistic world. Even though science has lots of advancement, science cannot win over these attributes.

Disciple - Yes, I agree that You are correct.
Spiritual Master - I am not correct. The contents of the Holy books are correct.
( Disciple nods his head gently to show his acceptance )

Disciple - What is the Ultimate goal of Human life?
Spiritual Master - Attaining Liberation from the repeated cycle of Birth and Death and going back to the Spiritual World is the ultimate goal of human life.

Disciple - How can the Spirit soul go back to Spiritual World?
Spiritual Master - When the Spirit soul gets liberated, it will go back to the Spiritual world, breaking the cycle of birth and death.  As per the Bhagavad Gita Chapter 8 Verse 15, Lord Krishna says, “After attaining Me, the great souls, who are yogīs in devotion, never return to this temporary world, which is full of miseries, because they have attained the highest perfection.”].

Disciple - How to safeguard oneself from the sufferings in this materialistic world?
Spiritual Master - A person who chants the holy names and surrenders to the Lotus feet of the Supreme Personality, can be safeguarded from the Sufferings in this materialistic world. "He who meditates on the Supreme Personality of Godhead, his mind constantly engaged in remembering Me, undeviated from the path, he, O Pārtha [Arjuna], is sure to Reach Me" [ Bhagavad Gita - Chapter 8; Verse 8]

Disciple - What should I ask God, when I pray?
Spiritual Master - Don't ask for any materialistic things, which will give temporary happiness. Please pray for the mercy of God and for His Divine Protection and Divine Guidance always. When God is with you always, what else you want in this materialistic world.

Disciple - Please suggest one book that can give more clarity about Soul, Reincarnation, God, Liberation, etc.
Spiritual Master - Bhagavad Gita. ( Bhagavad - God; Gita - Song ). It is the Song of God, in which God explains the essence of Vedas in 18 Chapters and 700 verses. Don't just read it, try to get the meaning of every verse using your logical mind. Question everything and accept the content only if it satisfies your intellect. As Bhagavad Gita talks about the Absolute Truth, I am confident that you can never find fault in its contents. "The Supreme Lord said: My dear Arjuna because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most secret wisdom, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence" [ Bhagavad Gita - Chapter 9; Verse-1 ]

Disciple - Thank you very much for the detailed clarifications master. I got clarity. I will start walking in the path of liberation.

Spiritual Master - All proud to God. Stay blessed.

My humble Obeisances To :
1.Lord Krishna
2.Bhaktivendata Srila Prabhupad
3.Sri Velkudi Krishnan
4.Vaishnava Devotees
5.ISKCON Masters

In Search of God – By an Atheist

Until my age of 27 Years, I strongly BELIEVE in science and didn't BELIEVE in the existence of God. I used to go to the temple mechanically due to the compulsion of my mother without any interest.

Law of Attraction – The Turning Point :
However, at the age of 28, I have come across a beautiful book called as “The Secret” written by Rhonda Byrne. The book explains the “The Law of attraction” in detail.

Law of Attraction :
The Law of attraction states that “You attract who you think and Pray to Universe for most of the time with 100% BELIEF”. ASK. BELIEVE. RECEIVE.

ASK – Ask What you want to the UNIVERSE.  [ As per Law of Attraction, it is BELIEVED that UNIVERSE listens to everyone’s silent prayers and bless them ]. BELIEVE – Believe that you have got the thing, in the mental screen and enjoying its presence [ It is called as Visualisation ]
RECEIVE – You will receive the thing in your hand soon. [ It is BELIEVED that Universe will set the situation and persons to deliver the thing that you have asked ]
EX :
Suppose, let us take that you need to attract a Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Let's see the "Law of Attraction" process below.

ASK – Ask the UNIVERSE with clear specifications [Ex : Maruti Suzuki Nexa Blue Automatic Petrol Car].
BELIEVE – Believe that you have already got the Car and enjoying the ride with your dear ones in your mental Screen as much as possible daily.
RECEIVE – Suddenly, one fine day your friend might request you to buy his Maruti Suzuki Baleno [The Same Specification’s as your visualized] as he is going to Onsite, for a cheap price which you can afford easily in installments. To your surprise, you might notice that the Colour and other specifications are the same as you have imagined.

After reading this book, I want to test the Law of Attraction. To my surprise, I got what I have prayed to the Universe, which is not possible without any external Superpower. I started BELIEVING the UNIVERSE and started attracted many things in my life. I started experiencing Magic and Miracles in my life.

I started asking the question, what is this thing called UNIVERSE which is listening to all our prayers and blessing them with whatever they ask ? After much study and research, I come to the conclusion that UNIVERSE is nothing but GOD, who is silently listening to our prayers.

Who is God?
I started BELIEVING in the existence of GOD and started reading the Holy scriptures like Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, etc. Bhagavad Gita is one such Holy book, that explains God in detail. After reading Bhagavad Gita, I am convinced that Lord Krishna is the Supreme Personality who has created this Universe.

Chapter 7 TEXT 16
catur-vidhā bhajante mā
janā suktino 'rjuna
ārto jijñāsur arthārthī
jñānī ca bharatarabha

TRANSLATION

O best among the Bhāratas [Arjuna], four kinds of pious men render devotional service unto Me—the distressed, the desirer of wealth, the inquisitive, and he who is searching for knowledge of the Absolute.

Strongly Recommended :
I strongly recommend reading the book "Bhagavad Gita" to know more about God. Bhagavad Gita is a Divine Conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna, in which Lord Krishna explains the most confidential Knowledge.

Chapter 10 TEXT 3
yo mām ajam anādi ca
vetti loka-maheśvaram
asammūha sa martyeu

TRANSLATION

He who knows Me as the unborn, as the beginningless, as the Supreme Lord of all the worlds-he, undeluded among men, is freed from all sins.

Let Lord Krishna’s mercy and Divine protection be with you and your family always. Hare Krishna.
